Amidst a turbulent time for the broadcaster, Seven West Media's managing director and CEO, James Warburton, is set to depart from the company today. Before the fiscal year ended, the well-known media executive was supposed to retire. Whether the scheduled CEO transition was expedited is unknown. Accusations made during a defamation trial suggest that Seven West, the company that runs the Seven Network and West Australian Newspapers, reimbursed Bruce Lehrmann for money he spent on cocaine and sex workers. Seven West has been embroiled in a number of recent scandals.

Seven West refuted the accusations. A Sydney man who was mistakenly identified as the Bondi Junction killer by Seven News has retained legal counsel and is suing the network for damages. In a stock exchange announcement, Kerry Stokes, chairman of Seven West, expressed gratitude to Warburton for his contributions to the company. Jeff Howard, the chief financial officer of the organisation, will assume the chief executive position tomorrow.
